Identity Theft

Eagle One Federal Credit Union is dedicated to educating our members to safeguard their personal information.  We are very concerned here at Eagle One FCU about protecting your personal information.  If you are looking for additional ways to prevent identity theft please read below.  We have listed several steps to help you be more cautious and minimize your chances of someone stealing your personal information.  You can also view our Links page to see added resources about your financial security.

· Review credit reports annually
· Shred confidential documents that you no longer need
· Review all account statements promptly and on a regular basis
· Use secure mailboxes to send and receive mail
· Use safer types of payment when paying online

*Be sure that when you are using online payments as an option there is a SSL symbol on your browser.  This symbol is a padlock image located on the bottom right of your screen.  It signifies that the website is secure for transmitting personal information.

· Use caution when asked for personal information over the phone or internet

*Eagle One FCU will never call or email requesting account information*

· Be aware of current scam tactics such as ‘phishing’ or spoofing’

*Phishing is a type of fraud where individuals are looking or "fishing" for your personal information.   Fraudulent e-mails and websites are often set up to deceive consumers into inputting their personal information on these fake sites.  Phishers will then use this information to access your account information or other personal records including usernames and passwords.

*Spoofing is when a fraudulent website is set up to attract consumers into disclosing personal and financial information.

· Photocopy important financial or insurance cards you keep in your wallet in a safe place; if your wallet is ever lost or stolen you will have all of the necessary documents for reporting purposes.
