Legal Services Plan
This plan has been offered for over twenty years to provide our members with competent legal service to encourage preventative legal care. You should thus be able to avoid difficult legal problems and high legal expenses. Membership in the plan makes it easy to consult an attorney when involved in an accident, before signing a contract, purchase real estate or making any decisions that may have legal consequences.
Your membership in the plan entitles you and each member of your family to a ½ hour consultation with an attorney at no charge and reduced fees for other legal services when they are needed.
A description of the plan:
For each legal problem, you will be referred to an attorney for an initial ½ hour consultation, without charge. If you require legal services beyond the consultation, the attorney will indicate the fees that will be charged for the additional services as well as assign you to an attorney with expertise in that particular field.
What is a consultation?
In many ways, whether you stay out of legal trouble is similar to whether or not you stay healthy.
The best way to take care of yourself is to get help when the problems are small and easy to handle. In a consultation, you and the attorney discuss your possible legal problem. This is a good opportunity to get legal advice for matters such as buying and selling a home or auto, review of a lease or purchase agreement and the need for a will. Remember, signed paperwork becomes a legal obligation. In addition, the attorneys are qualified to discuss with you problems you may have involving fields of Criminal Law, Domestic Law (Divorce, Custody, Support), Personal Injury, Real Estate Law, Estate Law, Juvenile Law, Consumer Law, and Bankruptcy. Any legal problem will be diligently handled by a knowledgeable attorney in the field of law involved. If the attorney does not feel capable of handling your particular problem, you will be referred to another attorney.
Who is eligible to participate?
Any member of Eagle One Federal Credit Union and each member of his/her family is eligible to participate in the Legal Services Plan. If a friend has a legal problem they will be entitled to a ½ hour consultation with fees but below general market rates.
How much does membership cost?
There is no cost for membership. Eagle One Federal Credit Union is making this service available as an added benefit to its members.
What fees are charged?
Legal consultations are available to all eligible members at no cost. In the event legal services are needed beyond the consultation, a reasonable fee will be quoted by the attorney. As an example, a charge of seventy-five ($75.00) dollars is made for a simple will, an uncontested divorce case is seven hundred & fifty ($750.00) dollars, plus legal costs and real estate transactions from Agreement of Sale through Settlement is six hundred and fifty ($650.00) dollars. Arrangements can be made by you for payment of the fee so that it can be paid in convenient installments. Other fee arrangements are also available through the Credit Union which can be discussed with an attorney and the Credit Union.
Who are the attorneys?
The law firm of Paul J. Furlong handles the Legal Services Plan. All matters about which you may consult with the firm will be held in the strictest confidence. If it appears there is a conflict of interest between you and the Credit Union, you will be referred to an outside attorney who has no connection with the law firm of the Credit Union. In any event, it is important for you to know that the attorneys must maintain the confidential relationship of attorney and client and cannot reveal your discussion to the Credit Union or any other party?
